A local bloke is attempting to reignite some old flames this afternoon, before he maps his return to his hometown for Christmas.

After spending his formative years growing up in Betoota’s regional metropolis, The Advocate understands the promise of bright lights led Josh Carmont (26) to Brisbane, where he has since become a full-time city dweller who suffers living in a three-bedroom share house with two other couples.

But with work duties winding up for the year, Josh decided five days out from Christmas was as good as ever to start planning his trip home, and maybe check out who is going to be around.

After lining up a few rounds of golf with his old school buds, and mapping out plans to get shitfaced on Christmas Eve at the bottom pub, Josh decided to lean into the romance of the season and do a little scan on socials to see which high school crush isn’t married yet.

“Hmmm what about Emma,” murmured Josh, typing some names into the search bar on Facebook.

“Ahh nup, that right she got married in March.”

“What about Alicia?” he pondered, before looking her up on Instagram and seeing she now is the proud Mother of two kids and married to some guy he used to play U/10s soccer with.

Dejected that another lonely Christmas was on the horizon, Josh made one last ditch effort and searched up ‘Chelsea Rodgers’, his old school captain who was always way out of his league.

Checking her out on Instagram, Josh was sour to see that it looked like Chelsea now lives a high-flying life in London, and has for the past three years.

Throwing caution to the wind and hoping that maybe some Christmas luck might come his way, Josh decided to hit up the girl he used to sit next to in geography lessons, and just check she wasn’t coming back for Christmas.

“Heyaaa, how’s London?” he typed, “Coming back to little old Betoota for Christmas?”

More to come.
