In local business news, nominees for the Betoota Chamber of Commerce Awards have been announced this week, and one insanely popular makeup store is a hot favourite to take home some silverware.
Located on level five of the Betoota Westfield, cosmetics powerhouse Mecca is expected to absolutely clean up after being nominated for a number of awards, including the newly created Best Community Initiative category.
The nomination comes after the store recently installed five 70″ Kogan QLED TVs in the carpeted couch area just outside the store, all live-streaming the cricket.
A rest area popular with husbands, boyfriends, and local dads who’ve taken their daughters to the shops, the couches are a familiar meeting place for blokes as they wait for loved ones to pick out a new colour of foundation.
Speaking to Mecca’s Head of Customer Experience, Estée Bobbi-Brown, the company has installed the TVs in the hope they can give back to the community of patient boyfriends, who for too long have sat and squinted into their phones while their partners shop.
“Whilst we love delivering value to customers inside our stores, as a goodwill initiative this summer, we’re hoping to deliver value to those patiently waiting outside our stores too,” Estée told The Advocate.
“Also, our data suggests we can increase the total size of basket spend by up to 11%, by giving customers longer dwell time in-store, without the fear of being dragged out before trying on every blush and lash combo on our stands.”
Chatting to one local dad stuck in the shops, Mecca’s new TV initiative has reportedly knocked local blokes for six.
“Yeah, it’s awesome. Every time I come here, it’s like dropping my three daughters into a theme park. So now they can go wild in there while I park up with a bag of Donut King’s finest and watch a few overs.”
“Mecca deserve to be nominated for some awards for this. If they can just turn it up a bit, I’ll even vote for them!”
