Betoota Heights retiree Jim Haversham [65] has this week found himself harping on about his favourite subject ‘missed financial opportunities of the past’, which he appears to grow more obsessed with, the older he gets.
This has included a two apartment in Betoota’s CBD he bought and sold in the 80s ,and a shitbox car he owned as a teenager.
Of course, his favourite thing about these two stories is that it wasn’t HIS FAULT that he fumbled the bag so bad – it was actually his wife and his son who were to blame.
“Oh your mother wanted a bigger house so we had to move to the burbs”, John liked to complain, “just had to get a four bedder, didn’t she.”
(Which made sense as they’d go on to have multiple children).
“That apartment is worth almost one million now.”
“Of course, before you came along son, I used to own a 1973 Datsun.”
“I bloody loved that car.”
“But no, we needed a FAMILY car, didn’t we?”, he said spitefully, despite the fact that yes, a two door coupe was in no way a practical car to drive around in when you had a toddler, “so we traded it in for a Falcon.”
“That Datsun is worth almost $60k now.”
“Don’t make the same mistakes as me.”
