Local Betoota Heights woman Fiona Hanson (59) is an absolute menace on Duolingo, reportedly reaching a whopping 2450-day streak on the language learning app.
Initially downloading the app years ago to pick up a few French phrases before a holiday, Fiona has since spiraled into a full-blown linguistic obsession. Now an elite member of the Duolingo’s Diamond League, she dedicates an average of six hours a day to the app.
The self-described linguaphile is simultaneously learning French, Spanish, German, Swahili, Japanese, and High Valyrian.
However, family members are less than impressed.
“At first I thought it was nice mum was keeping her mind sharp, broadening her horizons you know,” her son Max exclaimed.
“But last week, she left my birthday party just as we were cutting the cake because she was going to lose her streak,” Max said, shaking his head.
“It’s just gotten out of hand”.
Fiona was overheard muttering in a mix of five languages after being overtaken in her leaderboard by a user named ‘PolyglotKing69’.
“And don’t get me started on that bloody owl” Max exclaimed.
When asked for comment Fiona simply replied:
“Es-tu un cheval?”
