An office worker has been left feeling ripped off this morning, after realising her workplace would not be participating in the corporate ritual of placing delicious R U OK cupcakes in the break room.
R U OK day, which occurs on the second Thursday of September every year, is a national suicide prevention program designed to prompt conversations around mental health. Originally started with good inventions, the day has unfortunately become co-opted by companies who love to use the day to splash their social media accounts yellow tiles and images of employees tucking into cupcakes, without actually doing anything to fix poor workplace culture.
Which would have been fine for local woman Annie Hombs, 42, who was really, really itching for a sugary sweet with her coffee this morning.
But alas, it appears that all the employees at Chugg Marketing have been given is a hastily written company wide email, and an RUOK pamphlet.
“I was already feeling shit this morning and now I feel worse”, complains Annie, “where are the cupcakes?”
“Now I’m definitely not okay.”
More to come.
