A local woman has today revealed that she keeps an acquaintance from high school on her Facebook feed, purely as a way to boost her ego.
Yasmin Groves admits that she’d be better off investing that energy into making herself a better person but screw it, it’s a bit of fun.
“I think social media is designed purely to make you feel like shit”, says Yasmin, “every year I’m reminded that I’m no closer to getting married, landing my dream job, or finding a solid friendship group I can regularly drink martinis with.”
“Keeping up to date with Jessica’s chaotic energy is the only thing I’ve got to remind myself that life’s not that bad.” Yasmin reveals that when she has a particularly rough day, she likes to scroll through Jessica’s Facebook page with a glass of red, and catch up on the latest scandal.
“I was feeling pretty shitty because my boss was being a dick”, says Yasmin, “ended up getting my ass handed to me because I messed up big time with a client.”
“But you know what happened to Jessica today?
“She got broken up with. Twice.”
Despite feeling a little bit better about herself, Yasmin admits that using Jess’s drama as a way to make herself feel better about her lack of achievement, isn’t very healthy.
“Sometimes I wonder whose life is worse”, says Yasmin, “Jess and her never-ending stream of low life boyfriends, Charles Bukowski quotes and public beefs with some chick named Beck.”
“Or me, because my life is so goddamn boring I have nothing better to do than vicariously through hers.”
