In an unsurprising twist for anyone who knows him, local Betoota Heights resident Kyle Watson remains steadfast in his belief that his mandoline slicer is the pinnacle of kitchen convenience, despite recently slicing off a good chunk of his finger.

The mishap occurred last night as Kyle set out to recreate the viral TikTok cucumber salad that’s been making the rounds. Armed with his brand-new mandoline, Kyle was on a mission to slice his cucumbers into perfect, paper-thin rounds.

“I was slicing cucumbers like a boss, then—bam!—I felt a sharp pain and looked down to see a bit of my finger mixed in with the cucumbers,” Kyle recounted, proudly displaying his bandaged stump to our reporter. “But honestly, the mandoline is so much quicker than a knife, I’m not even mad.”

His housemate, Jess, who witnessed the scene, is still in shock. “I thought he was going to lose the whole finger. The salad’s off the menu, we’ve banned him from the kitchen. Jess exclaimed.

The kitchen remains a tense zone, with Kyle’s mandoline still perched on the counter, taunting anyone brave enough to use it.

Despite the mishap, Kyle stands by his decision, maintaining that the mandoline is the superior tool for the job.

“Sure, it took a bit of my finger, but you can’t argue with the results—I sliced those cucumbers at record speed,” he added.
