Tourists eager to see penguins on Phillip Island beach have gotten more than they bargained for this late afternoon, after spotting what looked like a giant mutant form of the species huddled together in a haze of smoke, it’s reported.

Home to the ‘largest little penguin colony in the world’, Phillip Island is a common attraction to tourists, second only to the island with those smiling rodents. It’s also a popular sight seeing activity for aussies travelling inner state, who still find it weird that penguins somehow exist in Australia at all.

It’s alleged the cohort who today dared the cold to see the penguins were treated to an unbelievable sight, which was unfortunately debunked rather quickly.

There is sadly no such thing as giant penguins.

“Yeah had to rub my eyes for a second”, says the tour guide, Joe, “turns out if it was just some Melbourne boys in those bloody puffer jackets having a vape on the beach.”

More to come.
