A couple of empty nesters in Betoota Heights have been urged to give up their spacious four bedroom house, after frequently urging their adult children to pop out some kids already.
Residing in a house that is clearly way too big for just two people, Phil and Carol Harvey, have failed to consider the fact that it might be for their son and daughter in law to raise children in a studio apartment that’s big enough to be shoved up a flea’s arse with room to spare.
The Advocate speaks to the son Michael, who’s had an absolute gutful of his parent’s irrational pestering.
“I can’t even go one week without them mentioning the possibility of grandkids”, he explains, “but where exactly are we putting these imaginary children?”
“In the garage?”
“Oh wait, we don’t have one!”
Michael says he and his partner may be about to fork out for a two bedder if they stretch the finances, but that the idea of raising a child in a tiny apartment isn’t exactly appealing.
“Mind you, ma and pa are living in a two million dollar house on a 1200 sqm block that they purchased for $180K in 2003.”
“If they’d be keen to swap, maybe then we’d have some kids.”
More to come.
