Regional father of three Michael Hanneman is a real man’s man.
Not only is he able to fix anything around the house but he can proudly recite the name of every James Bond movie.
But like every man’s man, Michael cannot stand anything remotely feminine without taking it as a personal attack on his fragile ego. This is due mainly to his rough and tough upbringing and from growing up in a generation that praised toxic masculinity. The very same generation who coined the term ‘metrosexual’ to explain sharp dressed straight men…because men are either divided into masculine blokes with a penchant for stubbies or those pesky stylish homosexuals.
So deeply entrenched is this prejudice that Michael can’t help muttering a series of slurs when watching a movie with characters whose sexual proclivities or racial traits differ from his own. Nor can he stand any kind of romance, choosing to fast forward any ‘soppy’ scenes that detract from the action.
However, tonight’s blight to his masculinity has come in the form of receiving a cup of tea in mum’s mug, which was innocently presented to him by his daughter, Steph.
“I think you gave me the wrong cup, bub.”
When Steph explained that his mug was in the sink, all Michael could do was give her a look of disbelief.
“That’s what a soap and sponge is for.”
“I’m not drinking from your mum’s bloody cup.”
More to come.
