Uni student and self-proclaimed Marxist-Leninist, Hugo Montmorency, has made quite a name for himself in student politics. His mission – to dismantle the pillars of capitalism, starting with what he calls the “tyranny” of HECs debt.
However, whispers around campus suggest that the Arts/Law student’s revolutionary credentials might have a slight hiccup—he doesn’t seem to have any HECS debt himself.
“He’s always the first to denounce the injustice of HECS debt and the burden it places on the working class,” said Vivian Chen, a fellow student, “but I’ve never seen him stressed about the cost of living. He’s always talking about the struggle, but I don’t think he’s ever had to choose between paying rent and eating dinner.”
Rumor has it that Hugo’s revolutionary spirit might be fueled more by the family trust than any real hardship. Word on campus is that Hugo’s tuition fees were paid upfront, and he lives in a terrace house his parents bought in Betoota’s French Quarter, conveniently close to campus.
When approached for comment, Hugo was quick to deflect, stating that the focus should remain on “the larger fight against systemic injustice” rather than his personal finances.
“Whether or not I have HECS debt is irrelevant,” Hugo declared, before disappearing into the French Quarter—reportedly for a glass of champagne.
