A cheeseboard participant has proven to be a trusted economic manager as Charlotte Phillips (37) realised her freshly sliced wedge of camembert was big enough to warrant a second cracker.
A certified cheeseboard favourite second only to having a Jatz on its own, camembert is a soft, surface ripened cheese that has the dual benefits of helping you look cultured and being only $8 at Coles.
However, as Phillips learned, slicing a wedge of camembert can leave you feeling a little like you flew too close to the sun and what was intended to be a generous and flavourful slice can end up looking like a selfish and glutinous bingefest.
“You could have stopped a door with the damn thing,” stated Phillips regarding her ‘error’ of cutting too thick a wedge.
“Even a French person would have said it was too much cheese, I could just feel everybody looking at me.”
Luckily, Phillips recycled a tactic she learnt in her youth and used a second cracker to make an economical cheese sandwich.
Although the ‘cheese sandwich manoeuvre’ (aka. cracker sandwich) does nothing to negate the substantial loss of communal cheese, fellow cheese board participants agree it is a nice gesture to make as a way of admitting erroneous and anti-social behaviour.
