Local woman Layla Chen thought she was fit.
Okay, maybe not FIT fit, but she can hold her own. Plus, she did enough hip hop classes as a kid to have some semblance of rhythm and ability to pick up steps.
But unfortunately Layla’s delusions about herself have now been very quickly dashed, after just five minutes into her first ever Zumba class – a class she decided to do on a silly whim, figuring she’d no doubt be one of the fittest ones there as she was a regular at HIIT.
However, as she’d walked into the studio packed with women, her eyes had quickly strayed to the absolute machine standing up front, a 56 year Columbian instructor with abs of steel, rock hard biceps and really, really nice hair.
Describing the instructor as ‘tiny, muscly and slightly mean’, Layla says she tried in vain to learn all the steps, but was quickly out performed by every woman over the age of forty.
When asked if she’d do a class again, Layla sheepishly laughs and says she’s not sure if her self esteem is strong enough to be that humbled again, and admits that she was sincerely worried the Zumba lady had been judging her the entire time.
More to come.
