A local woman trying to watch a period drama made in the US has unfortunately been unable to get lost in the story this week, as she was too busy being distracted by the lead  actress’s perfect teeth and swollen lips.

Having been a fan of period drama since her first viewing of BBC production of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ at age fourteen, Chelsea Zhang, now 32, says she reckons the US should leave that style of movie to the brits.

In fact, Chelsea admits that she’s starting to find comfort in watching UK shows and movies because the actresses are allowed to show signs of visible ageing and have features that aren’t ‘Hollywood perfect.’

“The older I get, the more I realise I’m part of some sick game I no longer want to play a part in”, explains Chelsea, “we make fun of these women for distorting their looks with the filler and surgery but we don’t often ask why they’re doing it.”

“I can’t imagine the pressure of being a beautiful famous woman, especially in Hollywood.”

“You’re not allowed to age, because then you look ‘old’ and ‘haggard’, but if you get the wrong kind of work done, you look like a ‘wax doll.’”

Chelsea says she finds it sad watching old TV shows or looking at photos of red carpet events from the pre 2010s, because people had unique features.

“Everything is so polished and curated and devoid of authenticity, I miss people rocking up to the VMAs wearing jeans and an orange tan, and seeing people on the telly with different noses and crooked teeth.”

“It makes me want to scream.”

Faced with her own impending mortality, Chelsea admits the exhausting plight of living in a youth and beauty focussed society makes her want to upheave her life and live on a farm with some ducks.

“I just want to be old hag in a cottage who makes hot stew and has no idea about tech neck or bunny lines or NASOLABIAL FOLDS”

“I want to be left alone!”

More to come.
