A software engineer and practicing Muslim, Amir Nayef (26) has been reminded that it’s that time of year after having to confirm that yes, he can’t drink water while he’s fasting, along with busting several other myths that he swears he already busted to these exact people this time last year.

“The worst one is when I have to correct people that I can in fact eat and drink this month, just not during the day.” Amir said.

“Ohhh, phew, I thought he couldn’t eat or drink for a whole month! That would be crazy! I gotta say though, no water during the day is pretty intense!” Exclaimed one of Amir’s coworkers Lachlan Coyle (29).

Despite trying his best to tag along to all the beloved office traditions including the Christmas party drink up, Melbourne cup drink up and most of the Friday lunch time drink ups, Amir does not feel overly negative about the fact that his co-workers still can’t wrap their heads around the most important month on the Islamic calendar.

“I’ve simply learnt to lower all expectations when it comes to a lot of my co-workers understanding what Ramadan is.” Explained Amir.

“All I know is the Greek and Italian lads in the office really got around Iftar dinner at my Teta’s last year”

Despite Amir’s best efforts to convey the significance of Ramadan in a concise and comprehensible manner, his coworkers continue to pepper him with a barrage of queries.

“Do you ever get, like, hangry? I would not last a day haha” Said Imogen Harper (23)

Amir does admit he appreciates that most of his co-workers can hardly comprehend the idea of his spiritual dietary discipline and therefore, are extremely sensitive to his seemingly impossible feat.

“Oh my god! I’m soo sorry I completely forgot about your no-eating thing” Imogen yelled at Amir in the office lunchroom while munching down on a ceaser salad.

“Yes, I’ve told them it’s ok for them to eat in front of me several times.” Amir confirmed
