Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak has dismissed rumours that it might be something other than that which it is, stating emphatically in a Fox Sports post-match interview that it is, in fact, what it is.
“It is what it is,” he said responding to a question about the poor state of the pitch in the Australia’s World Cup qualifier during Honduras. “We‘ve had to deal with it a lot during these qualifiers, but you’ve just got to try and adjust to what’s in front of you.”
This follows weeks of media speculation that it might not be all that it seems to be, with some analysts even claiming that it might be something else entirely.
SBS personality Craig Foster has been vocal in expressing his doubts about it, telling viewers that although it might appear to be what it is, it might also be something completely different.
“People seem to think that it is what it is, but we have to ask ourselves, would the Brazilians think it is what it is? Would the Germans? Why aren’t we trying to improve it? As far as I’m concerned, it isn’t what it is, and the FFA need to work out what it is because if it doesn’t, the NRL and AFL will be all too ready to take over it.”
Nevertheless, the Socceroos defender Milos Degenek, a late substitute during the game, refused to be drawn into the debate.
“We missed a few chances that we probably should have put away” he said after the game. “But it is what it is.”
