The southern beachside suburb of Bondi has today fallen silent, after the incredible Matildas’ victory in the World Cup overnight.
Despite the Matildas falling behind to Brazil 2-0 early, the Australians managed to claw their way back to an amazing 3-2 victory against one of the heavyweights of women’s football.
With goals from Caitlin Foord and Chloe Logarzo, and an own goal to Brazil’s Monica Hickman Alves the Matildas managed to rescue themselves from a potential World Cup Campaign ending situation.
After a few days of criticism from some in the media, the pressure release from the win led talisman Sam Kerr to tell the critics ‘to suck on that one.’
The quote from the nation’s most loved footballer came as a second sledge hammer blow to the tanning oil and swimsuit enthusiasts in Bondi this morning.
With the beach incredibly sparse this morning, it’s believed the regulars juggling soccer balls and tanning who call the beachside suburb home are licking their wounds after the loss.
A spokesperson for the community explained that despite the sun being out, it’s a very dark day down in Bondi.
“We were ready to fire up the BBQ’s for breakfast when Cristiane nodded in the second goal,” the subdued Brazilian said.
“But then the Matildas gave a commanding statement, and then Sam Kerr gave an even more profound statement”
“So currently we are ‘sucking on that one.'”
