In what comes as quite a weird story from the sporting world today, the Collingwood Football Club has today announced its intention to try and sign the Argentinian rugby captain.

The move from the powerhouse AFL club comes after Los Pumas captain Pablo Matera was stood down for a series of very racist tweets from a few years ago.

Matera, along with fellow players Guido Petti and Santiago Socino has been stood down as a result of some old tweets that were extremely crook, and drawn the ire of the Rugby world.

However, with the Argentinian now stood down for the foreseeable future, Eddie McGuire and Nathan Buckley are looking to pounce.

“Culturally, it’s a great fit,” said the boss of the club with a long and proud history of racism, including calling former player Heritier Lumumba ‘chimp’ and subjecting him to torrents of abuse.

“While Pablo is in the country, we want him to come down and try out, and take up a contract with our club,” said McGuire.

“The other two are too fat, but Matera could be good.”

Although Rugby League players have jumped to AFL before, it would be the first code hop from Rugby Union to AFL if the move eventuates.

“Exciting times for Collingwood,” said coach Buckley.

“Given his old tweets, we’ve got him earmarked for a potential leadership position.”

Matera is yet to publicly comment on the approach.

More to come.
