One of the greatest to ever play the game of Rugby League has today called it quits.
With 354 first grade games to his name, a few premierships, countless origin victories and a couple of Dally M’s, Cooper Cronk has called time on his illustrious career to focus upon what ‘really motivates him.’
The Roosters Halfback said he will now pursue his dream and a career in the literary field.
Cronk famously put his eloquence on full display a couple of years ago when he described his kick in State of Origin as such:
“In those few split seconds of time between receiving the ball and landing it at its intended destination, there was no noise in my head whatsoever.”
“Every sinew in my body came together – one perfect whole.”
“I began to realise that when we are being completely free of our own expectations, the body extends into its natural form, without impediment, and things happen.”
Cronk explained to reporters this morning that there is plenty more of where that came from.
“I’ve written half of my first novel so far, but I haven’t let anyone read it,” he laughed.
“You probably wouldn’t understand, it’s a real novelist kind of thing.”
“Anyway, I don’t want to give to much away, but it’s a love story set in Renaissance Italy, featuring two lovers, in seperate cities, forced apart, with the male protagonist forced to find employment as a brute.”
“I think it could be a very special story.”
Cronk explained he will be locking himself away now for the next couple of months to finish the labour of love before taking a job as a commentator with Channel 9, alongside fellow wordsmith’s Phil ‘Gus’ Gould and Ray ‘Rabbit’ Warren.
