New Zealand has arguably achieved the most emphatic, historic and unbelievably impressive Test series win in modern cricketing history and for one local Kiwi, that’s pretty cool, he guesses.

For the next few weeks, one of the estimated 118 inhabitants of New Zealand’s South Island is living in Betoota studying buttermilk production at the Diamantina Pastoral College.

Neil McRory, of Central Otago, spoke to The Advocate about the Blackcaps’ casual whitewashing of a cricketing powerhouse, at home.

Under a blooming jacaranda tree in the Pastoral College’s residential dormitory courtyard, the 24-year-old shrugged when he recounted what he’d saw on the TV.

“I mean, yeah, I guess. It’s pretty impressive. But they were all good games, we won them all, I think, you know, as opposed to India losing them,” he said.

“Like, there’s not much else to say. It was an impressive performance and the guys did really well. There’s a few Indian guys here and yeah, we watched the games and like, at the end they were really cool about it and we had some tea and stuff. I actually enjoyed watching it with them, you know,”

“What do you want me to say? Like what? Imagine if Australia had done that? [laughs] Yeah, I know what you mean. They’d be lining up to give it to the Indian guys. Can you imagine when the Wallabies achieve the impossible and win the Bledisloe back. It’s gonna happen one day and they will be flying over to New Zealand to laugh at us in the street. Yeah, nah, I’m laughing on the inside, buddy,”

“I’d be going off if we did the Aussies 5-0 at home.”

More to come.
