The Nine Network is in talks with Australian Rugby Union [ARU] to bring the latest Super Rugby disaster to the small screen, with Hollywood television heavyweight Eric Stonestreet agreeing to portray besieged boss Bill Pulver.
Due to make its TV debut mid-way through next year as the ongoing saga between SANZAAR, the ARU, Melbourne Rebels and the Western Force continues to play out.
Writers have begun putting the storyline together, which caught the eye of Mr Stonestreet – who’s said to be a big fan of both Australian historical mini-series and rugby union.
Speaking to The Advocate about his upcoming project Down Under, the 45-year-old Kansas City native gushed about his chance to play such a complex character like Bill Pulver.
“I just had to make it happen,” said Stonestreet.
“We had a few other projects on the table, but my agent knew how much this one meant to me. But yeah, [Bill] Pulver is such a rich and intriguing character. Layered with determination, pride and a willingness to do whatever it takes to do what’s best for rugby union in Australia. I simply can’t wait.”
The Advocate reached out to Mr Pulver and the ARU for comment, but have yet to receive a reply.
More to come.
