With Cyclone Uesi making its way towards the coast of Queensland, terrible flooding hitting the South East Corner and QLD and NSW preparing for more torrential downpours this weekend, residents on the other side of the country are also preparing to batten down the hatches.
Despite no major weather events being forecast for the capital of the aspirational republic of Western Australia, Emergency Services have warned residents to stay indoors after dark.
“We haven’t made up an African Gang Crisis like those Victorians,” explained Western Australian Fire And Emergency Services Commissioner Brad Hollis.
“But we do have a horde of professional Rugby League players touching down in our regional outpost,” he continued.
“And for that reason, we are urging all residents to avoid going out after dark unless absolutely necessary.”
His announcement comes ahead of the NRL Nines taking place over in Perth this week.
“Thankfully there aren’t full teams arriving, and they should be all on relatively good behaviour given it’s the pre-season.”
“But we are taking a safety-first approach. We’ve already got enough tattooed footy players who love sending it in Perth, they are called the West Coast Eagles. So adding in another couple of hundred Rugby League players makes for a dangerous situation.”
