The Sunshine State is feeling real 2011 right now, as Queensland basks in having a winning team again.
A decade on from the Queensland Reds being given the keys to Brisbane City, the boys from Ballymore have won another title.
This comes with the Reds beating the bush capital Brumbies 19-16 on Saturday night following a thrilling 85th minute try to James O’Connor – and another sensational performance from fan favourite Taniela ‘Tongan Thor’ Tupou.
Following in the footsteps of Quade, Willy G, Radike, Digby and co, reformed former hometown bad boy James O’Connor brought the title home for the state that loves a winning team almost as much as half a litre of milk with their coffee.
The brilliant performance capped off the Redemption for the former blonde-tipped child prodigy, who will now steer the Reds against the sliding Kiwi sides in Rugby Trans Tasman.
Once all the celebrations finish up off course, with plenty of the boys giving things a fair nudge by all reports – and the fact no one’s been spotted without sunnies yet.
However, with a trip to Dunedin to play an inexperienced Highlanders side on the decline, it’s believed noted man of faith Brad Thorn has told the squad to finish up the Vodka Cruisers and get ready to prep for the weekend ahead.
The Reds take on the Highlanders across the ditch in what’s expected to be a walkover in the first round of the Trans Tasman comp on Friday.
Queensland’s current most winningest team is then expected to roll through the rest of the New Zealand teams before winning another title in Brisbane in 6 weeks time.
More to come.
