The Non-AFL states around the country today are wondering how fucking grim things must be in footy commentary for the bloke from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to still be getting a start.
This comes as Eddie McGuire has stood himself down from scheduled TV commitments after his comment towards a Sydney Swans ambassador at the opening Friday night’s match between the Swans and the Crows at the SCG.
The Barnaby Joyce-looking media veteran took a cheap shot at the journalist and double amputee after she struggled with the coin toss at the beginning of the Swan’s first home game of the season.
“I think we should introduce a $5000 fine to anybody who’s tossing the coin and can’t do it properly,” said a clearly oblivious McGuire.
“Every week, we have someone dropping it on their foot. Come on, toss it up properly, for goodness sake. Practice in the week, you know you’re going to do it. It can’t be that hard can it, guys?”
McGuire did not feature in a broadcast on Saturday where he was scheduled to host the Fox Footy pre-match coverage of Essendon’s game against St Kilda in Melbourne.
McGuire released a statement to announce he made the call to walk away from his regular Saturday role after copping criticism for mocking the way Banham — who had both legs amputated after a plane crash in 2007 — tossed the coin before the game.
This marks the 1000th time McGuire has been forced into brief hiatus from the media for being a fuckwit, but no doubt he will be back soon with some sort of well-thought-out comments about Aboriginal people or women, possibly even the disabled again.
