In case you haven’t yet identified that faint thudding noise you’re hearing, it seems that the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have cemented themselves into the final 8 on the NRL ladder.

This comes as the Doggies star centre Stephen Crichton enters serious contention for the Dally M Captain of the Year, after he lead the boys steadily to a high-octane 22-18 defeat over the Canberra Raiders at the home ground on Sunday.

The streets of Belmore were packed with Lebanese drumming and Hilux smokeshows well into the evening last night, as it became clear that the boys are finally clicking in what could very well be one of those years that ends in 4.

As is numerological folklore within ‘The Kennell’ the fourth year of every decade is rather relevant to the Bulldogs. It goes like this:

In 1974, the Bulldogs lost the grand final. in 1984, the Bulldogs won the grand final. In 1994, the Bulldogs lost the grand final. In 2004, the Bulldogs won the grand final. In 2014 the Bulldogs lost the grand final.

The current year is 2024.

With Willie and the 04 boys watching intently in the stands yesterday, and Josh Addo-Carr back from injury on the sting, the final home game of the year had a hint of el magic about.

Is it fate?

Is it written?

Are the boys going to trot through to the final?

The drums of war are already drumming? Who are they drumming for? Is it the 2024 Dogs Of War?

Yallah is this the year?
