In some breaking rugby league news, The Betoota Advocate can exclusively reveal the Sydney Roosters have made a big play to land cross-code superstar Sonny Bill Williams.
After reports emerged that the Toronto Wolf Pack had tabled a staggering $9 million deal to the two time World Cup Winning All Black, the Sydney Roosters have wasted little time countering the huge offer.
The Eastern Suburbs club have somehow managed to offer the same $4.5 million a season over two seasons to the premier rugby league backrower in an effort to lure him to Bondi.
Despite the fact the contract would take up almost half of the club’s $9.6 million a season salary cap, the Roosters have assured The Advocate and the NRL that the move would be salary cap compliant.
“Yeah, Cooper Cronk is retiring, so that frees up plenty of money to fit Sonny Bill under the Salary Sombrero,”
“Along with all the other guys like Latrell, Keary, JWH, Tedesco, Cordner and so on.”
Sonny Bill Williams is yet to comment on the signing rumours but is believed to be leaning towards another stint in the Eastern Suburbs.
It’s believed that the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs tried to offer him their entire salary cap for the season but unfortunately couldn’t get him interested.
