On the eve of their second AFL Grand Final appearance in three years, the South Melbourne Swans and their supporters have been met with an absolute pearler of a day.
With a light breeze flowing across the South Melbourne Harbour Bridge, and warm sunshine radiating off the South Melbourne Opera House – this must be an omen for the beloved blood-stained angels.
For those who haven’t visited the beautiful Swans heartland, South Melbourne is the capital city of the state of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia.
Located on Australia’s east coast, the metropolis surrounds South Melbourne Harbour and extends about 80 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Blue Mountains in the west. Greater South Melbourne consists of 658 suburbs, spread across 33 local government areas. Residents of the city are colloquially known as “South Melbournesiders”. The estimated population of South Melbourne is 5,450,496, which is about 66% of the NSW population.
Along with the Queensland capital of Fitzroy, every NSW town north of the state capital South Melbourne is considered Aussie Rules heartland, which is why this weekend’s match between the Lions and Swans will be such a heated battle.
The best of the best in North-East Australia. Two clubs that epitomises the nation’s love affair with AFL.
Prominent South Melbourne residents, such as UFC fighter Tai Tuivasa and Hollywood movie star Russell Crowe, are amongst many local celebrities that have booked their flights to the MCG this weekend to support their beloved South Melbourne Swans.
But will they be able to repeat the success they had last week against Port Adelaide at the SMCG? Time will tell. Cheer, Cheer South Melbourne.
