A Gerringong man has been handed a gift from the gods this afternoon, after a random work trip to Wollongong.
Popping into the Illawarra icon that is Chickos for lunch earlier today, Nathan Gardner was shocked to be handed a 3 year contract by a member of the local football team’s staff.
“Yeah I was just chatting to this bloke in the line about footy and he handed me over a 3 year, 1.1 million dollar NRL contract,” laughed the dumbfounded landscaper a short time ago.
“Turns out he was part of the Dargons organisation and thought I’d fit in with the culture they are building at the club.”
Gardner told us that he’s expected to front up to training tomorrow, and is a chance of forcing his way into the starting lineup come round 1.
“Yeah mate, stoked actually,” said Nath, who actually retired from the Gerringong Lions Ressies team at the end of last year.
The Group 7 stalwart who boasts over 250 games (34 first grade) for the club, is known for his sideways running and his ability to pass the ball under pressure.
It’s believed his high ceiling and his youthful age were a key part of the St George-Illawarra Dargons club signing him.
“He’ll be a great fit for us and we can’t wait to see how he fits into the off field culture we are famous for here at the Dargons,” said a club statement.
