The US presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump kicked off at 9pm ET, resulting in a thrilling 90 minute debate that could be best described as a passive aggressive marriage counselling session.

Moderated by ‘World News Tonight’ anchor David Muir and ABC News Live ‘Prime’ anchor Linsey Davis, who acted as the weary counsellors ready to chime in with the odd fact checking or impartial follow up question, the debate has been met with amusement as viewers are treated to a far better slinging match than the embarrassing fiasco with Biden’s debate back in May.

Unlike the fiery, confrontational debates that characterised previous election cycles, this encounter between Trump and Harris kicked off with more subdued, yet no less intense, style of communication, with Harris spending the majority of the debate looking like a bemused parent entertaining a babbling toddler.

Touching on hot topics such as abortion, which Trump alleges occurs ‘even after a baby is born’ and immigration rates, which Trump alleges is so bad, that cats and dogs are being taken off the streets of Springfield Ohio and cooked into stews, the debate has been a master class of bold sweeping statements, baseless claims and deflection.

Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance, are scheduled to debate on October 1st in New York City, which has the potential to be even more entertaining.

More to come.
