#NupToTheCup activists have today been urged to try their hand at a boxed trifecta this week.
A trifecta is the selection of the first three runners to finish a race, in the correct order. A boxed trifecta is a type of trifecta bet where the bettor selects three or more runners to fill the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in any order.
This comes as the calls to boycott the Melbourne Cup and the horse racing industry at large grow across the country, particularly in inner-city pockets like West-End, Brunswick and Newtown.
However, the far greater number of people who look forward to a day, or at least a few hours off tomorrow have pleaded with the protestors to have a crack at a trifecta with a big payout.
“Could just be a boxed one with 4 or 5 horses in it, something big enough to win you an overseas holiday if it comes off you know,” explained one Melbourne resident planning to give it a nudge tomorrow.
“Honestly, I get where they are coming from, but a couple of brekky beers topped off by a big win a few hours later is pretty good,” he explained.
“Might make them reconsider their position a little bit, and potentially be happy to allow the industry the many and appalling indiscretions.”
