In what feels like a monthly occurrence now, iconic Australian music festival ‘Bluesfest’ have announced they’ll be shutting down in 2025, after 30 years on the scene.
It follows the shock cancellation of the Splendour in the Grass festival, which was due to be held in July, while other events such as the Falls festival and Groovin the Moo were also axed, after falling victim to low ticket sales, and the high costs associated with running a festival, including increased freight and logistic fees and police supervision – which is exorbitantly high in NSW.
It’s alleged that the NSW police charge up to 12 times that of Victoria to supervise their concerts – in fact it’s alleged last year, Listen Out Sydney festival was forced to pay $242,000 for 280 police officers.
However, while music festivals targeting the Tik Tok demographic may be failing due to Gen Z having no money, there does appear to be a very passionate group of fans who have banded together to ensure niche festivals continue to thrive – financially comfortable 30 something metalheads!
As Good Things Festival and Knotfest continue to pull in hordes of fans each year, the metalhead community has unanimously agreed that they will not, under any circumstances, allow the music to die.
Because in a lonely life, where no one understands you, don’t give up. Because the music do.
MUSIC DO, MUSIC DO, MUSIC DO, MUSIC DO, MUSIC DO, MUSIC DO!
More to come.
