A group of mates have today been met with a horrifying scenario at the local pub.
It seems the historically good boy is no more. He’s now one of them. But even worse, he’s a late bloomer.
Most of the lads have all known each other since high school, with some joining the group later through junior football.
As long as anyone has known eachother, Benny (30) has been the good boy.
This is mostly due to the fact that he’s been a relationship since year 10. But that’s just ended. Benny’s long-term girlfriend decided she wanted to see the world before she turned 30 herself. Benny’s mates call it a shit go. The girls all call it ‘Saturn Returns’ or some astrological shit like that.
While he doesn’t bare the blame for the break-up, Benny is carrying a fair bit of guilt.
Not that he couldn’t keep the girl. But, because he missed out on countless nights out with the boys while trying to keep the girl.
The problem is, Benny is now trying to live his life as well. And most of these boys have settled down.
After ten years of pretending he can’t see other women, Benny is now a flirt. He’s got an active social life. He’s doing party drugs.
And he just assumed the boys would be joining him. Tonight. After a steak. At a low key local pub. On a Wednesday.
Benny says we don’t need to stay here. We could go into town. He now knows all the places in town nowadays.
His energy is infectious. But is it infectious enough for every one of these grown men to throw caution to the wind, and ruin the rest of their week?
Out of the group of five, he currently has one locked in. Buddy, the other single bloke, he is still partial to this kind recklessness.
After a gruelling few minutes, one young father breaks. He’s in.
Another one goes down shortly after.
The last two agree to stay out, but with firm conditions. Their conditions are that they don’t have to spend any money, because they likely won’t take part in the extra-curriculars. Benny knows that’s not true, but he says he’s fine with that.
