A Brisbane mother unwittingly found herself in the middle of a chaotic scene during the afternoon school pickup today, reportedly leaving her with quite the earache.
Hearing the angry chants of workers at roughly 3pm this afternoon, Stacy Loughmann, 32 tells The Advocate that she’d simply chalked it up to another one of those vegan protests when she found herself crossing the street in front of thousands of enraged tradies —many of whom had already made a stop at the pub.
The raucous scene was part of a massive protest against the federal government’s decision to place the construction division of the Construction, Forestry, Mining, and Energy Union (CFMEU) under administration, following accusations of criminal infiltration and corruption. The decision has sparked widespread anger and defiance among tradespeople across the country, who are accusing the government overstepping the mark and unfairly targeting the industry.
And although Stacy typically sympathises with workers’ rights, she says her empathy has worn thin after the tradies briefly paused their march to ‘admire’ the young mum, with a barrage of ear splitting wolf whistles.
“It was like walking past a pack of hyenas”, says Stacy, as she tugs at her right ear, “pure nightmare fuel.”
“Lucky I wasn’t wearing my yoga pants.”
More to come.
