A work Christmas Party in Betoota’s Old City District is looking very likely to descend into hours of regrettable singalongs.

The team at Betoota Central Dermatology in French Quarter have been treated to an ideal end of year celebration: a late lunch at a popular local Mediterranean fusion restaurant and bar.

With nine employees, there is enough conversations to be had to keep everyone occupied until sundown. Which is the appropriate time for this thing to end.

A few glasses of bubbly and some good food, as well as some funny Santa hats and a $20 limit for Kris Kringle. It’s a great chance for everyone to let their hair down. It’s a party!

But it seems one employee has plans to turn this into something else.

The Filipino laser therapy operator, Althea.

Since the first email that went around to lock in a date for today’s party, Althea has been talking about how they could keep the party going after lunch.

Like literally every other Filipino on the planet, Althea is not only a die hard lover of karaoke, but she’s also an incredible singer. But her love of karaoke isn’t about showing off her skills. It’s about creating an environment where the music of Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey plays non-stop for hours.

She is now campaigning heavily for the Christmas party to end up at a karaoke venue.

In every conversation she had throughout the day, Althea somehow found a way to subtly shoe-horn a conversation about karaoke, and how fun karaoke is, and how they should all go to karaoke tonight, into the just about every encounter she had with her fellow workmates.

By the time lunch was over, she had 5 out 8 soft yeses, with several members of management still holding out. This is not the end of Althea’s campaign. She’s now convinced everyone that she ‘knows this area’ and put herself in charge of mapping the rest of the evening.

The ‘cool bar’ that she has suggested they visit down the road may or may not be a trap. As her colleagues go suspicious, Althea is asked to clarify the name of this new venue.

“SingWorld” she says.
