An older Australian has so far lived his life under the impression that when he’s got some folded ones to spend, he is the one who is always in the right.

However, this afternoon around 4pm, he met his match.

Hand on heart, Graeme Pooley said he’d seen a cheaper socket set at the Mitre 10 in Betoota Heights and now that he was standing in front of a sales clerk at the Bunnings down the French Quarter, he felt he was entitled to the famous 10% discount on that item.

However, the said Bunnings sales clerk explained to Graeme that he was going to need more than his word.

“I’m telling you it’s exactly the same and I need that discount, thanks,” Graeme spat at Oscar Dollarhyde, a Bunnings wageman just minutes away from knockoff.

“I understand that, sir, but it’s company protocol. Do you have a catalogue or something?”

But Oscar had already made up his mind that Graeme wasn’t going to be getting the $4 discount.

“Listen to me, son. I am the customer. I am always right. Let me speak to your manager,” said Graeme.

Though Oscar wasn’t a manager, he told Mr Pooley that he was.

He told him that because the world of retail had worn him down, extinguishing any real hopes he had for his future.

In fact, he also told our reporter that he didn’t care if he got fired. There’s plenty of other jobs just like his.

“So,” said Oscar.

“It seems that Graeme here has met his match. Today, the customer was wrong. But yeah, he was totally right about the discount thing, by the way.”
