Richard Di Natale has today dodged questions about why he’s up in the Northern Rivers of NSW this weekend.

“Oh is Mardi Grass on this weekend,” Di Natale laughed.

Mardi Grass, the state’s second biggest Mardi festival, does, in fact, take place over the weekend in the Free Republic of Nimbin, and features a law reform rally, a large festival and of course the Hemp Olympix involving events like the Bong Throwing Competition.

Speaking to reporters at Ballina Airport a short time ago, the Greens leader and hobby turmeric farmer explained that he has plenty of political work to do up in the region ahead of the election in two weeks time.

“Well there isn’t much I can do about fucking Adani is there?” said an angry Di Natale.

“Looks like the big two have just agreed to sell us out for a few piddly votes in a swing seats.”

“Anyway, I’m up here to do a bit of campaigning over the weekend,” said the man who is coincidently up in the region for the duration of the Mardi Grass festival in Nimbin.

“And, who knows, if I manage to get down to the festival so be it.”

“A good time never killed anyone, and neither has the Mardi Grass festival, so the pigs who raided the Hemp Embassy yesterday in Nimbin should go and do some real police work.”

He then flicked his phone to ‘Do Not Disturb’ and hopped into his COMCAR.
