Speaking today from Far North Queensland, despite it being a sitting day for both the House of Representatives and the Senate, under siege maverick politician Bob Katter has broken his silence on Senator Fraser Anning – who yesterday generated profound and widespread condemnation by using a term once used by the Nazis.
After telling journalists that the Cowboys still have it in them to make the finals this year, Katter quickly changed tack.
“But I’m not spending any more time on the Cowboys. People three hours ago, I spoke to Fraser on the phone. He just wanted a quick chat but I took two hours of his time. He explained to me that he was sorry and he apologised,” said Katter – as a fly crawled over his bare eyeball.
“He apologised for not focusing on the crocodiles who keep tearing people apart every three months in North Queensland. Fraser was left unsupervised for too long. He joined the party only after he swore to me that he would only focus on the crocodiles,”
“That, as it seems, was a lie.”
Katter then went on to paraphrase what Anning had said to him this morning.
The Member for Kennedy explained that his party leader in the Senate said that he was sorry – but only sorry that he didn’t toe the party line.
When asked by reporters if he was willing to accept that, Katter said he didn’t want to spoil his afternoon press conference he has scheduled.
Katter will speak to the media again today at 3pm AEST.
More to come.
