Documents relating to a $250m council pork barrel were shredded by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s office during her messy break up with former Wagga MP Daryl Maguire.
In the lead up to the last state election in the nation’s most populous state, the ICAC alleges that around $250m was spent by the Premier’s office on council grants in electorates deemed to be safe of winnable by the Coalition.
It was uncovered last week that evidence of this fraud was destroyed by Gladys Berejiklian’s office – which she says is something that everyone does during the break down of an intimate relationship.
“Oh my God!” she yelled down the phone at our reporter this morning.
“Everyone shreds documents when they break up. I had given the people of Wagga so much money solely because they were Daryl’s people. Like so when I told my office to destroy all evidence that I’d approved that, I was just removing all parts of Daryl from my life!”
“I unfollowed him on all my social media platforms, I even blocked him so he can’t look at my Instagram stories anymore. Like, it’s just what you do. It’s good practice,”
“It’s not a real break-up unless you’ve shredded sensitive documents.”
More to come.
