While roofers and tilers right across the South-East corner are still on medical leave, residents still cling on to hope that Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oma could make landfall before it fizzles out completely.
The unusual but closely monitored weather pattern has triggered massive waves off Queensland’s southeast coast, exceeding 12 metres offshore from Mooloolaba – but unfortunately didn’t hit the Goldie has hard as residents had hoped for.
Local surfshop owner, Wayne Occhilupo says the whole community had high hopes that Oma would save the some cash and tear down some of the poorly-thought out Commonwealth Games light installations.

Another local resident and surfboard shaper, MP Bartholomew says he’s really disappointed the Goldie didn’t end up getting that face-lift they had been preparing for.
