The nation is collectively waiting to see how the impending recession this country will inevitably experience will be made out to be Labor’s fault, despite not being in government since 2013.
Spin doctors within the government say it’ll be an uphill battle to convince the wider Australian public that this next economic downturn is the doing of Labor – but not one they can’t win.
Speaking to The Advocate this morning via telephone, one Liberal Party PR expert said the campaign will begin once the re-election spike wanes off in the local markets.
“An economic downturn is never the fault of a Liberal government,” said Maxwell Blake, who’s worked on Scott Morrison’s rebranding.
“The Australian public has been conditioned to think that since Howard. Boomers remember the 18% interest rates and they remember that Labor was in power when they were paying that,”
“But it was the fault of the Fraser government’s wanton fiscal violence in the late 70s that caused that. But you don’t need to know that. It’ll be hard to convince people that Wayne Swan and Kevin Rudd are the reason why they’re defaulting on their mortgage but it’s not impossible. Bring it on, I say.”
The Advocate reached out to the Labor Party for comment but have yet to receive a reply.
