According to Roy Morgan Research, nearly 90% of female Instagram users with followings that exceed 1000 people, identify themselves as “entrepreneurs”.

Roy Morgan group account director Bryan Clydesdale says that hot chicks on Instagram very seldom refer to themselves as simply hot chicks.

“Bikini Model / Entrepreneur / Fitness Model / Blogger”

“It’s definitely a new space they are navigating through. It’s unique in most of these young businesswoman have stumbled across a career in entrepreneurship,” said the researcher, who believes the Instagram model sector is one that grows on a daily basis.

“What we are seeing is 17-18 year old females developing huge followings on social media based off the fact that they look really good in a bikini,”

“The moment they attract followers that extend outside their immediate friendship circle, they are able to dignify themselves by changing their bio to include the word ‘entrepreneur’ – this is usually around the time that they also include an email address for brands to contact them,”

Just like the Silicon Valley in California has become home to an industry of tech start-ups, Australia’s east coast appears to also host a large majority of “Bikini Model / Entrepreneurs”.

This may be due to the countries vast coastline, one that young women are able to utilise for amateur photo shoots which suggest they are actually employed by modelling agencies.

“The moment these women reach around 10,000 mark followers, they are often seen promoting teeth whitening products as well as independent bikini designers,”

The Roy Morgan report also found that these same attractive Instagram users are also able to utilise the titles of “Bikini Blogger, Beauty Blogger, Designer and Fitness Blogger” to take away from the fact that their popularity is predominantly middle aged men that enjoy looking at them wearing very little clothing.

Another finding suggested that the Bikini Model / Entreprenuer industry is rife with discrimination. Statistics point out that male swimwear models have far fewer opportunities to make money through exposing their bodies in amatuer photoshoots.

Budgy Smuggler ambassador and male swimwear model @Tindafella has spoken to The Betoota Advocate today, about the blatant gender equality issues he faces every day as a male Instagram user.

“Mate, no one gives a shit about my rig,”

“Male swimwear is just about all I am able to model… Nobody is sending me packets of body scrub or fake tan,”

“It’s unfair and it’s offensive. But that being said… No one can model the Budgy Smugglers quite like I do,”

“Any brands out there that wanna send me some free skincare products? I’m happy to plug it for you…”
