Local handicapper, Ernie Coughlan (45), has today graciously filled in his close-knit circle of halfwit punters with the good oil.

According to Ernie, this weekend’s NRL grand final could easily be snatched by the same team that won it last year. It’s a bold call but he’s looked at both teams side-by-side and he reckons that the Sydney Roosters might have this one in the bag.

Ernie isn’t even basing his predictions off what he’s been reading on the back-page either, he reckons this is pretty obvious, when you look back over the season.

With the premiership-decider taking place at Sydney’s ANZ stadium this weekend, an out-of-character finals dash by the Canberra Raiders has seen them make their first grand final since they won the comp in 1994. 25 years ago.

Compare that with the Roosters, who won their last premiership twelve months ago, and you’ve got two fairly different teams, according to Ernie.

So, with the Raiders made up of a bunch of English ex-pats and one-club players from regional New South Wales – and the Roosters made up of Tedesco, Latrell Mitchell, Cooper Cronk with both shoulders working – and just about every other rep player available – Ernie reckons the Roosters might be taking home the silverware this weekend.

“I might put twenty on them” says the part-time panel beater, full-time professional gambler.

“Maybe Tedesco or Latrell as first try scorer”
