Counsel assisting the ICAC probe into alleged corruption within the NSW Liberal Party has told The Advocate this morning that they’re not sure if they’re speaking to a group of politicians or a dementia ward.

The develops come as nobody who has fronted the commission yet, whether it be Premier Gladys Berejiklian, disgraced former Wagga MP Daryl Maguire or some other useless public servant has been able to remember even the simplest of events.

“It’s like talking to someone with dementia,” said one lawyer currently assisting the ICAC who asked to remain anonymous.

“You know that Michael Leunig cartoon about the man who talks to his shoe? This is what it’s like. It’s like I’ve taken my Balenciaga loafer off my foot, put it on the chair and tried to cross examine it,”

“You look these people in the eye and ask them a question and they just say, ‘I can’t recall’, when you know for sure that they can. It’s revolting and these people should be ashamed of themselves. Do you think they care? No. Are people angry this has happened? Not really,”

“Is the ICAC going to have our funding slashed after this? You bet you’re fucking arse we will.”

The Advocate reached out to the NSW Government for comment but have yet to receive a response.

More to come.
