As the NSW Liberal Government begins to accelerate the transition to renewables, it seems that carbon-exposed workers across Australia are starting to feel betrayed by the party that squandered every dollar they dug out of the ground during the mining boom.
Hydrogen, wind and solar are back on the table – and NewsCorp have made the overnight decision to back renewables, after rubbishing climate scientists as deranged leftie alarmists for twenty years.
While Scotty From Marketing and Barnaby are still holding on to the gravy train of Gina Rinehart with both hands, they still haven’t been able to stop Rupert Murdoch from announcing their reluctant climate action policy on the front pages of every major newspaper in the country this week.
While the Perrottet government has managed to get in front of this rapid shift in public sentiment, the Prime Minister has made far too many promises to mining lobbyists to ever acknowledge the grave warnings of 99% of the world’s brightest scientists.
Even in the face of heartbreaking bleaching events in the Barrier Reef, and record-breaking bushfires in 2019, Scotty From Marketing has proven he will do absolutely fuck all about limiting emissions so long as his party is beholden to the political donations made by the tax-dodging multinationals that have made billions of dollars by burning fossil fuels into our atmosphere at an accelerating rate for over 200 years.
However, the defiant NSW Government’s new push for Net Zero has caused a lot of problems for their Liberal colleagues in Canberra. It also does not help Morrison that Rupert Murdoch is refusing to run a smear campaign against them, like he would have done to any other political party.
But you think the Federal government have problems, spare a thought for the Federal Opposition.
Sitting in a trendy hot-desk-themed Surry Hills office this afternoon, a room full of inner-city Labor powerbrokers are now processing the fact that coal miners might start voting for them again.
“Yucky!” says hipster Labor organiser, Atticus Humphries-Whitely.
“Surely not..?”
His colleague, Echo Carlisle-Thistlethwait says unfortunately that might be the case.
“Yes. We thought we’d gotten rid of them all… But apparently this old ‘tree of knowledge’ voter base isn’t dead”
Their third colleague, prominent Sydney branch stacker, Coop Kuggsclan, says this will prove to be a real problem come election time.
“What’s next? We have to start listening to the concerns of religious voters too?”
“Why do we have to pander to these people?”
“They are completely removed from the rest of the country!”
