The nation has thrown support behind striking Jetstar workers today, saying people who maintain aircraft deserve to be paid a livable wage.
From the captain to the cleaner, Jetstar staff are walking off the job today and the weekend in protest of their low pay and poor working conditions.
But the revelation that some of the workers responsible for making sure that Jetstar aircraft don’t make unscheduled inverted landings are paid less than telemarketers has sent a shiver down many a passenger’s spine.
Roger Munro, of Betoota Heights, was due to fly on Jetstar today out of town down to Adelaide. His flight was cancelled because of the strike action.
His initial rage quickly subsided, however, when he found out why the strike was happening.
“A bloke from my office was on the last Jetstar flight out of town before the workers began their strike action,” he said.
“I texted him that it [the strike] was over pay and conditions – and that the guy who made sure the wings were still attached to the plane before take-off was making less than a fucking Grill’d burger artist,”
“All he wrote back was ‘haha’ and sent one of those nervous :0 emojis [laughs] Poor bastard.”
The Advocate reached out to Jetstar for comment but their customer service number just rang out.
