Eleven-time world champion surfer Kelly Slater reportedly faced relentless surfing conditions at Avalon Beach on Friday, breaking two surfboards in the water, as he finally showed his face to his new neighbours.
The American surfing great has based himself in Australia throughout the coronavirus outbreak, and was cheered by thousands of adoring fans as he took on Friday’s heavy winds northern beaches.
Waves were seen rising to heights of up to three metres as Slater battled the fierce winds that have continued to batter the New South Wales coastline for days.
It wasn’t just Avalon Beach that hosted the big surf though, with monster swells recorded right across the state. And according to the surfers – it wasn’t just Avalon Beach that hosted Kelly Slater over the weekend.

Aside from the spectacle at Avalon, where he is reportedly staying – Slater has also been apparently spotted paddling alongside Bra Boys in South Sydney.
Surfers from Wollongong and Tuross also report seeing his tanned head chasing waves in the South Coast.
Tall-story-telling surf club dads from towns likeWoolgoolga, Byron Bay and Coolangatta also claim that their sons and daughters might have seen a bald bloke that looks like Kelly Slater out the back.
There have even been reports of Kelly Slater being given exemptions on state-border restrictions and catching a few waves off Straddie. Some say they have even seen him in Fremantle.
The Betoota Advocate reached out to Kelly Slater for comment but it is believed he is avoiding as much media as possible during his stay in Australia. Slater’s management said he will not be doing anymore interviews after his upcoming appearance on the Hello Sport Podcast.
