Karma appears to be catching up with the bohemian artistic community of Sydney’s Kings Cross, after a number of restaurants voluntarily shut their doors amid concerns the inner eastern suburb could be the next NSW coronavirus hotspot.

Both Kings Cross and the greater Potts Point locality have been put on high alert after two more positive cases in the densely populated area – involving The Apollo and Thai Rock restaurants.

Those cases were confirmed by NSW Health today as they announced 14 new COVID-19 cases, with just one from hotel quarantine.

Residents say they are now really regretting the new ‘COVID-19 Fountain’ that was erected following the first NSW government lock down in late march.

Titled “A storm in a teacup” the distasteful public art installation is located on Macleay street, and overlooks the once popular nightlife district.

Locals say they thought it was initially pretty funny to build a giant fountain that looks like the COVID-19 bacteria, but they are now deeply regretting the decision.

“Oh shit. That’s aged like warm milk” says local Kings Cross identity, Abe Freeman (66).

“We all thought it was hilarious, because COVID-19 was such a thing of the past.”

“But now it’s back, and it’s not just truckies and pokie addicts getting sick. People like are us are at risk too!”

“And now we have this giant coronafountain in the middle of the main street.”

While the NSW Government continues to criminalise protestors, locals say they will wait until the Black Lives Matter movement loses momentum before they tear down this statue – out of fear of being arrested for attempting to apply a critical thought process to our own history.

In the meanwhile, locals just have to pretend this giant virus isn’t there.

“It’s not gonna be easy” says another prominent local, Juanita Roslyn.

“A couple of feverish patrons in The Apollo has shut down our suburb quicker than Mike Baird did after they began building the new Casino”

“Forget loud music, locals are now ratting on their neighbours for coughing!”
