There’s trouble brewing in the coal port of Newcastle this week, as yet another club falls foul of a merchandising blunder.

The Advocate understands footy fans across Newcastle and the Upper Hunter are planning a furious protest along the foreshore, after their beloved team unveiled a new jersey for mining round which accidentally features a wind farm.

After releasing the jersey this week with a photoshoot of players standing on a large tyre in a Singleton coal pit, Knights fans took to social media to call out the mistake.

“This is a disgrace, mining round is for the coal community, not for the wind warriors” wrote Knights fan and Maitland plant mechanic, Steve Harrigan (46), “How does this even happen, the club has lost its way?!”

Speaking to a press pack out the front of McDonald Jones Stadium this morning, Knights CEO Phil Gardner said the club would be doing all it can to rectify the situation, and that the misprinted designs have been ceremoniously incinerated in a furnace with a few lumps of black rock.

“We unreservedly apologise for the mistake and we understand the offence we’ve caused to many people across the region,” said Gardner, wearing a hard hat and a reflective high vis-vest supplied by his PR team.

“We had briefed our design intern to create a new jersey for mining round, but we believe he just put the request through an AI image generator and it spat out this renewable eyesore.”

“We’ve since sent the intern to do a two week stint in a pit out in Moranbah, and they’ll be staying in a stinking hot donga with no air con to think about their actions.”

More to come.
