Two locally-popular young women from our town’s leafy northern Heights district have spent a lunch today trying to one up each other with stories of how busy they are right now.
Handing in her reports to the principal just a few hours ago, Northern Road Public School teacher Jess Dobson hand-balled her Year 3 class to the relief teacher just before lunch and hit the road.
Around the same time, Penk Greer told her supervising solicitor that she had to go and see about a client and she’d be back on Monday. It wasn’t a lie – but it certainly wouldn’t take a whole afternoon. Her supervisor knew that, too, but ultimately couldn’t care less as long as her billable hours were met for the month.
Penk and Jess were sat next to eachother at Cameron Lucas’ going away drinks, which are still ongoing down at Merivale’s only establishment in town, The Dickless Parrot.
As ruse slap of bargain bin rose met their lips, they both began to unwind after what they both describe as a week from hell.
“I’ve been so busy doing reports,” said Jess to nobody in particular.
“So busy. God, I need a holiday.”
Penk was triggered by this, she said.
She told our reporter that nobody could’ve had a busier week than her.
“Oh God, me too, Jess,” she said.
“We’re doing this massive M&A right now. Like a full on multi-million-dollar deal. Super high stress, like we cannot make a mistake. I’m doing grad hours again [laughs] But what you do is so important to the community, it must be so rewarding!”
Jess’ eyes widened.
“That sounds so hard! I could never be a lawyer, I’m not smart enough! [laughs] Like, our classrooms are so under-funded, like I’ve had to put so much of my own money into the classroom for supplies and stuff. It must be nice to have a job where you don’t have to worry about that sort of stuff! [laughs]”
Penk took a long sip.
“Yeah, it is, babe.”
From afar, Cameron could see what was happening.
“Oh my God, Penk, I want you to meet Thyme! She’s a lawyer as well but she’s just quit her job to go travelling!”
Penk and Jess looked at each other one last time, before parting ways, never to speak again.
More to come.
