The Super Rugby Marketing Pigeon can put his little feet up on his little desk this afternoon and flap himself on the back because all his hard work promoting the game in the offseason is about to come to fruition.
Super Rugby begins its 25th season tonight somewhere in New Zealand, there’s also a game somewhere in Australia between two of the four teams pictured above.
And for Marketing Pigeon, it couldn’t have come sooner.
The flying rat (or ‘sky lobster’ according to Member for New England Barnaby Joyce) perched up with our reporter at the football code’s launch this afternoon in Sydney.
“We’ve done a big advertising spend this summer to gear us up for the long season ahead,” he cooed.
“In all the right places, too. We’ve put ads up in the elevators of most CDB office blocks, taken out full-page ads in private school and university college alumni magazines. I also commissioned a glossy, high-production-value video that we asked people in the rugby community to share,”
“We also sent a couple emails out to our club members across the country. Ah, we also got some promo videos up across the whole Foxtel network – which was a massive coup. We’re also offering cut-price tickets to our reciprocal club network. If you’re a member of a golf club around the country, you might be able to get some cheap tickets to games. Oh yeah, we are also on Kayo, which is like Fox Sports but only online so we are reaching a whole new audience with that. I’m excited!”
You can watch the opening games of the Super Rugby at most good pubs and clubs around Betoota tonight, provided you can find the bar manager and get him to change the channel over.
More to come.
